What JavaBBowl IS

JavaBBowl for OS X is...

  1. Mac-specific.
  2. Optional. You do not need to use this, as you can simply use the .jar file.
  3. The exact same code as the .jar file.
  4. Simple enough to make that you can do it yourself if you (wisely) don't trust applications from random people.
  5. An application bundle of the .jar file. It takes the exact same java code and makes your operating system use it like an application, rather than like a java document that's run by your JRE.
  6. Slightly faster and more stable than using the .jar file. I haven't done any specific tests, but it feels a bit quicker and more stable than running the .jar file. This is probably because of the way your OS handles the memory for an application. To be honest, I'm not sure why but it really does seem to work.
  7. Only used when you directly choose to open it. If you use the "Play" link on FUMBBL, you may not even realize it, but you're skipping the .app version and using the .jar file.

Still lost? Well, don't feel too badly. JavaBBowl is also...

  1. A small addition to an application - a java-based version of a board game - written by the elusive SkiJunkie.
  2. Based on Blood Bowl - a comic fantasy football game by Games Workshop.
  3. Huge in Europe. Trust me.
  4. Targeted at a niche within a niche within a niche - just the mac players of a somewhat obscure online adaptation of a boardgame.
  5. A little way for me to give back a bit after all the enjoyment I got out of SkiJunkie's hard work.
